Video Editing Process

Video editing process

Once filming is completed, it’s time to begin the video editing process! Editors join up the footage alongside the script and creative brief, which will add magic to the video and elevate the storytelling.

At Nutmeg, we have 3 edit suites and an in-house team of experienced video editors who will bring your story to life using the highest technical software and standards, design, motion graphics, colour grading and sound engineering.

The editing process is methodical and includes various different stages, so it’s so important that everyone involved in the project is aligned on requirements.

Below, we have broken down the video editing process so you know what to expect at each stage.

Edit 1: Content edit

Stage 1: Nutmeg sends 1st edit

  • Nutmeg’s in-house video editors will join up the shot footage in line with the script and creative brief. The editors will review the material to generate a first draft edit, a content edit, which is sent to clients for review
  • Nutmeg hosts the video edits on Vimeo, and will provide access to a Vimeo review page through a password-protected link

Stage 2: Client feeds back on 1st edit

  • Client shares 1st edit with necessary stakeholders involved in the project to review the edit and collate all feedback
  • One person is nominated from the client team to add all feedback comments to the Vimeo link
  • Feedback comments should be added directly on to the video – at specific time stamps – using the Vimeo review page. Here is a video explaining how to use the Vimeo review function: https://vimeo.com/nutmeg/video-editing

Edit 2: Content sign-off

Stage 3: Nutmeg sends 2nd edit

  • Nutmeg’s in-house Editors will action all feedback comments. If there’s anything that needs clarification, your Producer will communicate via email or suggest a call, to talk through the feedback in more detail to ensure everyone is aligned
  • The 2nd edit is where we sign-off on the content and what is included/excluded from the video, so it is crucial that everyone involved on the client side reviews the edit and we sign-off on the content

Stage 4: Client feeds back on 2nd edit

  • Client shares 2nd edit with necessary stakeholders involved in the project to review edit and collate all feedback
  • One person is nominated from the client team to add all feedback comments to the video link
  • Feedback comments should be added directly on to video – at specific time stamps – using the Vimeo review page. Here is a Video explaining how to use the Vimeo review function: https://vimeo.com/nutmeg/video-editing
  • Content in video is signed-off

Edit 3: Final amends and delivery

Stage 5: Nutmeg sends final edit

  • Nutmeg actions all feedback from 2nd edit (picture lock)
  • Nutmeg completes colour grading, adds sound effects, purchases stock footage and music featured in the video before delivering the final edit

Stage 6: Client feeds back on final edit

  • At this stage, all content is signed-off and client provides feedback in the form of final tweaks and amends. These should be minor adjustments to fine-tune the video before final delivery

Stage 7: Nutmeg delivers final edit

  • Final tweaks are actioned and the film is final film is delivered
  • Client confirms video sign-off via email
  • Please double check all content before going live.

Once the video is signed-off, we can work on creating additional versions of the film. This may include:

Subtitled edit

  • Subtitles can be either:
  1. Burnt into the video or;
  2. Provided in an SRT file format (The SRT file will allow them to be turned on or off when the film is playing)
